The international conference “The Resilience of May 18 Memory and the Future of Democracy” will be held on May 21–22, 2026, at Chonnam National University.

This conference commemorates the 46th anniversary of the May 18 Democratization Movement, the 30th anniversary of the May 18 Institute at Chonnam National University, and the 15th anniversary of the inscription of the May 18 Archives on the UNESCO Memory of the World Register.

The Institute for Convergent Humanities at Chonnam National University is participating as a co-organizer.

The conference will discuss the continuing significance of May 18 memory and its relationship to democratic resilience and the future of democracy.
